Setting Auction Tracker up on your Local Computer (PC/Windows ONLY)
Remember that all of your organization's Auction Tracker data must be on one single computer at any given time. While it is easy to move Auction Tracker's data from one computer to another, Auction Tracker data saved onto two separate computers cannot be easily combined. You must use one computer to keep the master data file for your organization's fundraising data. If you would like to use multiple devices to run check-in on event night, please see our networking guide here: https://auction-tracker.helpscoutdocs.com/article/255-auction-night-computer-network-set-up
Setting up Auction Tracker
- Create a folder on your C: drive called Tracker
- Copy the entire Auct-Tr folder sent to you from MaxGiving Support into the Tracker folder you just created.\
- Open up the Auct-Tr folder and find the tr_configINI file and double click to open the file. You will need to change the file paths to: c:\Tracker\Auct-Tr\AUCTIONTRACKER.FDB and c:\Tracker\Auct-Tr\CONSTITUENT.FDB by simply highlighting the box, deleting and replacing with the new paths.
- Download Firebird-2.5.6.27020_0_Win32.exe on your device. Once complete, install the file.
- Open the Tracker\Auct-Tr\Bin folder and find the security2.fdb file and copy it into the C:\Program Files(x86)\Firebird\Firebird_2_5 folder
- Restart your computer, and once it has booted back up, open the Tracker\Auct-Tr\Bin folder and run the Auction application, selecting "Normal User' as your option to login.
Tips for installation prompts that may occur:
- If your computer asks you, "Do you want to allow this app from an unknown publisher to make changes to your device?" select Yes.
- If your computer tells you "Windows protected your PC,' you will want to select 'More info', and then select 'Run Anyway.'
- Once inside Auction Tracker, you will see a message for 'Unable to connect to Community Newsfeed...,' you can ignore this and click 'OK' to close the box. Our upgrade to version 8, will eliminate this.
Best practices
- It is recommended to create a shortcut or pin the Auction Tracker app to your Start menu or Task Bar, for easy access in the future.
- Pin to start or taskbar: Right click on the Auction file, and then select 'Show more options' and then select Pin to start or Pin to Taskbar.
- Create a shortcut: Right click on the Auction file, and then select 'Show more options' and then select 'Create shortcut.' This Wille create a shortcut file in the folder, that you will want to drag and drop to your Desktop screen.
- Periodically, you may want to check for the latest update. To do this, click on Help at the top of Auction Tracker, click on Check for Latest Update from the dropdown and follow the instructions.
- A good best practice for your data files, is to back them up that if anything were to happen to your computer, you would not have lost all data. To do this, select Utilities at the top, and then "Backup Data Files' from the dropdown, and then YES for the error message. You will want to click the icon with the three dots to select where you would like the backup saved and continue. An external hard drive or USB storage device is recommended.
